This week's verse and video

What is the future of all true believers?
Believers from every nation will worship Jesus for eternity.
Revelation 5:9
And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation."

Learning the Books of the New Testament

This is not what I intended to have to post on the blog here, but since I can't find a recording of the song we started learning last night for the books of the New Testament, you're stuck with us!  Hope it helps you learn the books better as you listen to it (and hope it doesn't hurt your ears too much!)  You never know when saying these books will earn extra Riel...hint, hint, hint!

TRIPLE THE RIEL!!!

Don't forget this week is triple the Riel week.  All the money that you would normally earn for saying verses, etc. will be TRIPLED!!!  This would be a great week to work really hard on your verse for Sunday.  And don't forget the special assignment with the tracts.  You can still decide to accept the special assignment and use a tract you have at home or get one from the upstairs tract rack.

Verse for Sunday, October 31 and Wednesday, November 3

Catechism
Q: "Is it my job to save people?"
A: "No, God is the only One great enough to save people from their sins."

Verse
John 15:16 - "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you."

The verse for Wednesday, October 27 with the motions courtesy of a strange looking Mr. Rich

When should I be ready to share the hope of the gospel?
I should always be prepared to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.

Don't forget the special offering!

Hey, Kids!  Don't forget to bring money for special offering for the Special Agents, the Farmers this Wednesday, October 27.  Every single penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and dollar that you bring in will go towards meeting our goal for the Farmers.  We'd love to see you make a sacrifice for the Farmers by giving of your own money. Remember the Lord loves a cheerful giver!  Here's your opportunity to show the Lord and the Farmers how much you love them by giving cheerfully and with a willing heart!

"Dress like the Agents" night

Don't forget to dress like one of our secret agents this week, October 20, in order to earn more riel money for our special field agents, The Farmers.  I'm including a picture from the very first time we ever saw the secret agents...do you remember when this was?

The verse for Sunday October 17 and Wednesday October 20

For whom is God's plan of salvation?
God's plan of salvation is for the entire world.
Genesis 12:2-3
And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

This week's verse (October 13, 2010)

Is there a need for laborers in God's harvest field?

Yes, there is a great need for laborers to take the gospel around the world.

Matthew 9:37-38
(37)Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. (38) therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."

The verse for Sunday, September 26 and Wednesday, September 29

What is  the gospel?
The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

1 Cor 15:3-4
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

This week's verse

Sorry for the lateness in getting this out!  I've got to get back into the swing of posting things again after our summer break.

The verse for September 22, 2010 is Matthew 28:18-20.  And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in [fn] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

Don't forget we are earning "Riel Money" by saying your verses, coming each week, and bringing your Bible!  You also need your security clearance to be able to earn Riels for our Special Agent Project.  Rumor has it, too, that there might just be some "unusual activity" going on this week as far as "agents" go...be on the look out!

This week's verse

This is the verse for Sunday, May 9 and the last week of Kids' Club, Wednesday, May 12.

[2 Corinthians 5:21] For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

In case you missed the email...

We sent this announcement out via email this week, but wanted to include it here as well in case you missed the email:

May 12 will be the last Wednesday night for Kids' Club this spring. After a brief pause from children’s ministries on Wednesday nights, there will be a program for the children on Wednesday evenings starting early this summer. That program will be structured differently than our typical Kid’s Club, but it will provide a wonderful opportunity for your children to continue to grow in Christ. Please feel free to check with Pastor Brent for more details about the summer program. We are excited to resume Kids' Club as it has been running again this coming fall. God bless!

No verse this week--just the catechism!

Q: What is justification?
A: Justification is the declaration that I am righteous before God through faith because He has placed my sin on Christ, and Christ’s righteousness on me.

The catechism was so long this week, that we're waiting until next week to learn the verse to go along with it...so you just need to learn what is justification for Sunday, May 2, and Wednesday, May 5.

Monday, April 26, 2010

WOW!!!

We had EIGHT people say their verse this Sunday!  That's a tie for the most ever to say the verse on a Sunday.  That's going to really help with the points since saying the verse on Sunday is worth $2,000!!!  Make sure you learn your verses for this Wednesday--every verse makes a difference!

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

And the winners for this week are...

Come on...you don't think I'd really tell you who won this week do you?!?  You have to come back next week when the agents bring the gold back to find out who the winner for this week is.  But I'll give you a hint...the winning team was either the blue team or the red team! :-)

The verses for Sunday, April 25 and Wednesday, April 28

Q: What is the gospel? A: The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.
[1 Corinthians 15:3-4]

(3) For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, (4) that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

Crazy Hat Night!

Verse for this week

In the excitement of posting the video of the kids doing the cheer, I forgot to post the verse for this week, April 21.  Here it is:

Q: How does a person receive salvation? A: A person receives salvation by trusting in the gospel.
[Romans 10:9] Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Fun pictures from Kids' Club

Miss Rachel reviewing the names and events of the missionary story.  And no, that's not Mr. Phil in the picture with the parrot...those are 3 of the missionary men with a gift from the Auca Indians!
The kids love playing Simon Says with Mr. Rich...he comes up with the craziest things to do!
Miss Jenna leads the serious song time right before Mr. Phil's lesson.
Both Hannah's got a gift...the not so pretty package contained yummy licorice, but the beautifully wrapped present contained a smelly, rotten banana!

It's Crazy Hat Night!!!

Hang on to your hats boys and girls...nights like this don't come very often (for which the parents and workers are very thankful!)  It's CRAZEEEEY Hat Night this next Wednesday, April 21.  Don't forget the following things need to be true about your hat:
• You need to be able to take it off for the serious times like the missionary story and Mr. Phil's lesson
• You need to make something about it--You can use a base (like a baseball cap) that you add things to or you can make the base yourself.
•We will be having a contest to see just who's hat is really the craziest!

How could this happen!

Who would have ever thought the Lord's plan for these men was to have them be killed by the Auca Indidans?!?  We learned this week that they did not make the call in on the radio at the right time.  Missionaries from all over Ecuador came to help search for them, and the results were tragic.  But why would this happen after there had been such friendly contact with "George" and the two Auca women before?  You do not want to miss what happens from here on out in this story as Miss Rachel helps us see how the Lord uses these missionary men even after their deaths!

Thursday, April 8, 2010

Some fun pictures from this week

Our missionary story...

is getting more and more exciting!  The 5 missionary men have landed on the sand bar, "Palm Beach" and an Auca man and 2 Auca women came out of the jungle and spent the day with the missionaries.  Jim Elliot and co-laborers are sleeping in a tree house waiting for the Lord to provide more and more contact with the Auca Indians.  They spent several months dropping gifts down in a pail from Nate Saint's airplane and receiving gifts back from the natives...what will happen now that they are so close to the Auca's...be sure you don't miss next Wednesday when Miss Rachel continues the amazing saga of Jim Elliot's life!
Miss Rachel demonstrates how Nate Saint was able to get the pail of gifts from "Operation Auca" to be still enough for the natives to get the gifts out of it while he was flying his airplane.

The verse for Sunday, April 11 and Wednesday April 14

(Question) Did Jesus come as a mighty king to save the world?
(Answer) No, Jesus came in humility to save the world through His death.
(Philippians 2:8) “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

The verses for Sunday, March 28 and Wednesday, April 7

This is the verse for this Sunday, March 28 and for Wednesday, April 7.  We won't have kids' club this week since there is no service due to the Good Friday service.  But you can plan on saying it this Sunday still!

Q: Why did Jesus come into the world?
A: Jesus came to save the world.
[John 3:17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Thursday, March 18, 2010

The verse for Sunday, March 21 and Wednesday, March 24

Q: What effect did Adam’s sin have on all humans? A: Adam’s sin brought death, condemnation, and sin upon all humans.
[Romans 5:12] Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.
The children say their verses when they first arrive and then head to the check in table to get their "gold" for their team.  If they said their verse on Sunday and all the verses on Wednesday, they could have earned as much as $13,000!!!
Each child is allowed 2 helps per verse...no more than that!
Miss Rachel invests so much time preparing the missionary story about Jim Elliot.  She makes it really interesting and makes sure to end on a note of suspense each week.
Mr. Phil started out his lesson time by carelessly pouring water into a little jar without taking care.  He had Laura come up and try to do a better job and get more water into the little jar.  It was a great illustration of how being careful and controlling our spirits results in a better outcome rather than just reacting with little or no care.
ZONK!  This is the first time this year the kids' favorite game was back...you might have heard their excitement upstairs as they were trying to convince their teammates when the right time to stop was!
It's so hard to choose the right number and know when to stop so you don't lose all the points for your team!
Just being ourselves! :-)

They got MARRIED...finally!!!

Be sure to ask your children about what happened to Jim and Elisabeth Elliot in last night's missionary time. After what seemed like forever, they finally got married!  Your kids seem to really like this part of Kids' Club and pay attention to even the smallest of details.

The Bible Lesson time from last night

Mr. Phil's lesson last night was such a help to me as a mom that I wanted to pass on some of the verses he used and what he shared with the kids.  I plan on having our kids memorize these verses--that or I will quote them so often that they will memorize them by default!  Proverbs is so chock full of practical applications--Love that!!!

The lesson overall talked about controlling ourselves and our reaction to what happens in our lives.  Proverbs 29:11 says, "A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back."  I think we all need this verse in our lives, but it really resonated well with our kids when Phil made the application to their every day lives with siblings or other people who can be frustrating.  Proverbs 20:3 says, "It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling."  I'm personally thinking this is a perfect verse for talking back and always having to fuss with siblings (mind you...we never have this problem at our house, but you might find it helpful...yeah, right!!!) Phil used the example of Peter reacting without thinking when he cut off the servant's ear in the garden when they came to arrest Christ to show how foolishly we act when we act without stopping and thinking about it first.  Did Peter really think that he needed to protect Christ, the Creator of all things?!?

One thing that might help for you to know as you are driving with your children is that Phil also used the traffic lights as a reminder of how we should respond.  The red light means the first thing we should do before reacting is "Stop."  The yellow light reminds us to be cautious and think about what the Bible says we should do.  The green light is for when we go ahead and obey what the Bible says. You could bring this up and review these thoughts when you pass a traffic light this week.

One of my thoughts in sharing this with you is to let you know so you can reinforce these principles with your children throughout the week.  Hopefully it helps you as well  face "training times" with your children from a biblical perspective.  It's so helpful to have verses ready to give your children to point them to God and His Word rather than our "words of wisdom."

The verse for Sunday, March 14 and Wednesday, March 17

Q: What is sin?
A: Second, Sin is doing what I know is wrong.
I John 3:4, "Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness."

Friday, March 5, 2010

Verse for Sunday, March 7 and Wednesday, March 10

Q: What is sin? A: First, sin is NOT doing what I know is right.
[James 4:17] So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

Karis, Hannah, and Emma catching up with each other and what's happened since Sunday.

Miss Rachel making sure her team knows how to play the game...and she did a good job, because they won the game!

Naomi really had a lot of fun playing heads up seven up while we waited for the adults to finish praying upstairs

Chloe and Eden love heads up seven up as well!

Bradley listened really well about what he had to do with the red piece of paper

Mr. Rich listening to Andrew's verses before Kids' Club starts

Making sure all the kids are ready to listen to the instructions for the game...hmmmm, sure does look alot like those secret agents up there, doesn't it?!?

This week's verse

Here is the verse that you can say on Sunday, February 28 for $2,000 and then again on Wednesday, March 3.

Q: How did God create men and women? A: God created men and women in His own image.
[Genesis 1:27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

The blue team pulled out a great victory last night. Keep working hard to hide God's Word in your hearts!

Some of Miss Jenna's Pictures from last week...

The last 3 need some explaining...The kids (and workers, obviously!) love to look for Waldo!  For just a few minutes at the beginning of our time last week for a fun activity, we all looked for Waldo in the land of Waldos!  The real Waldo didn't have his shoe on.  Mr. Phil finally had to tell everyone where it was because no one could find it--not even Nate and Rich who had the advantage of looking on the laptop!

One team has a slight lead...

We had 9 people say their verse today at church! Which means one team has a slight lead to start out Wednesday...and I'm not telling you which team it is! Study, study, study so you can help your team get the most gold in their bucket! Way to go, Bradley for saying his verse on Sunday for the first time this week! So proud of all of you and the hard work you do for the Lord!

Thursday, February 18, 2010

This week's verse

This is the verse you can say on Sunday, February 21 for $2,000 and then again on Wednesday, February 24 for an additional $2,000. If you say your verse on Sunday and on Wednesday, say all 4 previous weeks' verses, and bring your Bible you could earn a whopping $9,000 for your team!!!

Our goal is to get 10 people to say their verse on Sunday...think we can do it?!? Go study!!!

Q: What is God? A: God is a spirit; He does not have a body like men.
[John 4:24] God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

Kids' Club Verse

Here is the question and verse for this week. This question and verse may be said to any kids' club worker on Sunday, February 14 and then again on Wednesday, February 17. You get $2,000 for saying it on Sunday and then $2,000 more for saying it again on Wednesday! Don't forget you can say all the earlier verses on Wednesday night for even more money for your team.

Q: Is there more than one God? A: No, there is only one, the living and true God.

[Isaiah 44:6] Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: "I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.

Rumor has it...

The special agents were seen wandering around the church recently...rumor has it they might make another appearance this week at kids' club. You don't want to miss it!

It's neck and neck right now!!!

There were 6 kids that said their verse this past Sunday. Josh, Tyler, Hannah, Daniel, Michael, and Laura all said it and will get $2,000 for their team. And the part I really want you to know...3 of them are on the blue team, and 3 of them are on the red team! So right now it is neck and neck for this Wednesday. You want to be sure to learn those verses (you can say all 3 weeks' worth!), and bring your Bibles!!! It'll be a close one again--don't think someone else will learn their verses for your team--YOU LEARN THEM!!!

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Week 3 Bible Verse

This week's verse is:

Q: What has God given to teach us how to glorify and enjoy God? A: The Bible is the ONLY authority to teach us how to glorify and enjoy God.

[2 Timothy 3:16-17] All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

You can say this verse on Sunday, February 7 and then on Wednesday night, February 10. Don't forget--you can only say the current week's verse on Sunday, but you can say all the verses every Wednesday. That'll be some major money for your team as we add a verse each week all semester long!

Last night at Kids' Club...

It was a close call...in fact, it was too close to call! There was a tie between the blue and the red teams! So next week, there will be a red AND a blue flag on the Gold Rush Mining mountain downstairs. It was so close, one or 2 more people saying their verses would have made the difference and helped their team win! You can get $2,000 for your team if you say this week's verse on Sunday. Be sure to study up and say those verses so there won't be any more ties!

On a different note, I didn't take my camera last night, but tried to snap a few pictures with Mr. Brent's cell phone. I'm not sure how they turned out, but if there are any decent ones, I'll be sure to post them so everyone can enjoy the fun we had during game time!

We are having Kids' Club tonight

Someone just sent me an email asking if we are having Kids' Club tonight. Just wanted to make sure that you all knew we ARE having Kids' Club tonight! Don't forget to wear your team color tonight, and learn that verse!

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Wear your team color night

We announced last night at Kids' Club that next week, Wednesday, February 3, is "Wear your Team Color" night! You can go crazy with it or be a bit more conservative...but you definitely want to wear your team color from head to toe! Start planning those outfits now--this could be interesting! We sent out an email with the list of teams in case you want to know who's on what team...leave a comment if you want the list, but didn't get it, and we'll get that to you asap.

What happened at Kids' Club last night...

Thousands and thousands of dollars worth of "gold" were handed out last night for kids who brought their Bibles and said their verses! It was a close race, but the red team managed to pull out the victory over the blue team.

Don't forget that you can say this week's verse (and the answer to the question!!!) on Sunday for $2,000 extra for your team. You can also say all the week's questions and verses at Kids' Club on Wednesday nights...that will really add up as the weeks go on!

We had 7 kids say their verse this past Sunday:
From the Blue Team:
Daniel, Joseph, and Michael
From the Red Team:
Josh, Cheyenne, Hannah, and Tyler
Way to go Gold Rushers!

This week's verse--January 27, 2010

Remember that you must learn the answer to the question AND the verse/reference!
Q: What is man’s chief purpose?
A: Man’s chief purpose is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
[Revelation 4:11] Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.

Pictures from January 20, 2010

This week's verse

Q: What does the Bible tell me?

A: The Bible tells me what to believe about God and what He requires of me.

(Micah 6:8) He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

We're doing the verses a bit differently this semester. We are going to be learning verses all related to the same topic so that by the end of the semester the kids will have 12 verses memorized all relating to one thing.

Instead of a catechism, we are asking the kids to memorize the answer to a question. The worker will ask the question and the kids will need to say the answer and the verse. Hopefully this will help them keep things straight when they have more verses to say.

Another change is that we are only going to have the kids say the current week's verse on Sunday. They can still say all the verses on Wednesday, but only that week's verse on Sunday.

There are more changes I'll let you know about in the upcoming days, and I'll put the teams up here so you can what team your kids are on. So be looking for more information this week!

Thank you for the opportunity to minister to your children and hopefully your family, as a whole. We count it a privilege and take it very seriously.

Exciting things coming your way...

Just wanted to let you know I was in Green Bay today and picked up some things for kids' club and the new theme that we're introducing this Wednesday. Brent's working on getting some things ready, too, so that we can have an exciting time letting the kids know what's coming up this semester. Miss Rachel's working on a new missionary to introduce to the kids, too. We have some procedure changes we're making, but we're keeping it all under wraps until this Wednesday night. I'm apologizing now in case the kids drive you crazy all the way home from church on Wednesday night...that's all I'm saying...OH YEAH!!!

The start of a new semester

We are gearing up for a great semester at Kids' Club at Norway Baptist! We have some exciting things planned and can't wait to get started. Check back often for updates, announcements, and even a picture or two from time to time!
